• Evaluation of usefulness of above /What useful information did you extract

The Evaluation

  • Published scripts (How we looked at existing scripts to understand format)
  • Factual information / Secondary Research (Looking at news for ideas)
  • Adaptations (How we adapted short stories into treatments)
  • Primary research / Speculation / Opinion (How you turned personal experiences into ideas)

The looking at published scripts was good because it helped me better my understanding of scripts, i.e. the different types of format for scripts and how each one is supposed to be used. This then helped me as I created my own script.

Looking at news for ideas was educational because as well as learning new things, news articles helped because I turned 2 into logline pitches. Then from logline pitch to treatment which is overall like the whole unit. So looking at news articles were definitely useful.

Going on to treatments again was useful because treatments are basically stories and we basically had to create our own one to gain understanding of many techniques and whatnot.

Out of all these sub tasks I would have to say that turning my personal experience into ideas was my favourite. I believe this was because my personal experience was so exciting and fun. It was talking about my experience on ncs. Then when it came to picking one of the best scripts in our group of 4, everyone decided to choose my script as it’s the best.

Primary Research / Speculation / Opinion (How you turned personal experiences into ideas)

I was at ncs last summer 2015 and the funniest thing that happened to me was when I was at ncs and my friends stole these biscuits from the canteen downstairs and the ncs staff mentors never actually found out who it was until like the last day of the trip. This was very funny and was definitely one of the funniest things that had happened on this trip. It even had the staff laughing and all the other students laughing about it.
For the scariest thing, this is still at the same event/trip ncs. So we was doing an activity which was hiking. I hate heights and scared of heights, so I knew this would be a huge challenge. Mountains are like the tallest things ever, this was a very big big challenge for me. I never thought I could actually conquer it. Half way through I wanted to give up but then thought of how proud my family would be if I completed it which I had done at the end. After the strenuous hike I felt like I achieved something very great although it was a very scary event and I was out of my comfort zone.  To conclude, hiking was definitely one of the scariest things I had done.

The most dreadfulness thing I have ever done would be one of my activity called mixed guiding. We had to climb up a mini mountain, dripping down with water so basically like a water fall. It was quite dangerous and dreadful. This is because it was very slippery and we were climbing upwards so it was quite steep. Although it was very dreadful, it was a challenge and a good one which I accomplished.

Adaptation (How we looked at existing scripts to understand format)

I used existing scripts to help me understand formatting and the layout of scripts. I learnt how to use many different techniques such as interior and exterior. From existing professional scripts it helped me to understand how to use each and when to use each of them.

The layout of my story starts from begging to middle and then the end. Like the same as a normal story.

• Factual information / Secondary Research (Looking at news for ideas)

My logline pitch

Horrified Lady wants to find out who stole her scrumptious cheese and ham bagel. Due to the mysterious burglar not leaving any traces.

Newspaper story:

Protagonist – a central character

The protagonist

Dramatic Question – What do they want? (In real terms and thematically – a family? Forgiveness? To overcome an Achilles heel?)

If you’ve ever wondered just how much attention airport staff are really paying, here’s a little pointer.

Actual newspaper story:

Airport security at Stansted just allowed Josh Reed, a 6’3” bearded bouncer to travel on a passport owned by his pregnant partner.

Sophie Watkins, for the record, is 5’2”, female, and does not have a beard.

Josh told Lad Bible, ‘I was just completely shocked at how the hell I look like a small brunette female.

‘It’s terrible that it wasn’t noticed at all.’

Second newspaper story:

Having played pretty much every online game there is to play and quickly getting bored of completing other people’s games, he decided to make his own.

He began dedicating endless hours to YouTube tutorials and studying books on coding.

Mohammed told Metro.co.uk: ‘I used to play online games, a lot. In 2012, I really did get bored and thought thoroughly on how a game is made. The journey started in my bedroom, I watched YouTube videos to learn Java programming as that was the language that was required to develop the game.’

Having mastered the art of Java script, Mohammed invested in books to teach him more about the actual development of a game.

First logline pitch:

Second logline pitch:
